cnn editor paul stein hauser is here to do the math for us. paul, what do the national polls look like? >> two days to go, and we have four polls that are nonpartisan and came out since midnight. let's start with the abc news/"washington post." 48% of likely voters supporting the president. 48% supporting mitt romney. how about nbc news/"wall street journal," pretty much the same story, a 1 percentage point ahd of mitt romney. and pugh research center, they came out with obama with a 3 point advantage. that's within the sampling error. this is just about dead even as we get into the election. >> act what battleground states? >> that's the key here because this is not a popular vote, this is a battle for the states and their electoral votes. we look at those eight battleground states, polls in two of them just came out last night and nee're interesting. this is in des moines, iowa. you have the president with a five-point advantage there and nbc news "wall street journal" maris poll had results that were similar. romney started his day in iowa,

ali velshi, he's traveling on the cnn election express and also there is john avalon, cnn contributor. hello, gentlemen. listen, you all heard what the president and mr. romney had to say, but, you know, let's talk about the political capital here. who is going to get more political capital out of this with just four days to the election, ali? >> well, hands down president obama because he had the most to lose out of this thing. the issue was if the unemployment rate went up substantially, or more importantly if the 171,000 jobs weren't created. the expectation was for 125,000 jobs. as long as he cleared that, he was going to be okay. barack obama gets more out of it. as you can see, he's not emphasizing the unemployment rate when he's speaking. mitt romney is doing that math that doesn't work thing again. barack obama said that the unemployment was going to be this and now it is this and as a result 9 million people are out of work. that's just not math that works. i don't think either of them are convincing anybody right now. this could have hurt barack obama. it is not going to hur

cnn is not reporting. you're saying that. but here's the big question that some people may be wondering without evidence of a crime. as if an outsider had information. >> that's the concern when it starts. when you look into that, in the cia or fbi headquarters or any of the intel agencies, often you have dual computer systems so that you can receive outside e-mails because someone might send a complaint over the public internet service providers. and then you have the classified e-mail systems internally. and they're completely separate. but the fact that someone's receiving a threat at that level, they have to investigate and look at the nature of the threat and look at the person making the threats and start subpoenaing that person's records to see if they're threatening other officials or if there's more to the story, who they're connected with. during that subsequent part of the investigation, that's where they determine the connection between the other woman and general petraeus. >> bob, do you agree with him? >> he's a
